Blankets of Love South Bay Picks Up Steam
September 22, 2016Blankets of Love South Bay ‘Give’ and ‘Take’
November 14, 2016It has been awhile since I have written. So much has gone on and time has been in short supply. Two important occasions have occurred since I last blogged.
First, on Thursday, October 20th I was pleased to donate Blankets of Love South Bay’s first blankets to Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital! Twenty blankets were carefully and lovingly rolled, bowed and tagged for donation to the hospital. My dear and wonderful friends, Betty Freitag, Anne Leu, and Pam McKniff helped me with the preparation of the blankets the week before. On October 20th I went to MLKCH and met with Tobey Robertson, VP of Marketing and Communications for the hospital, and presented her and Crystal, labor and delivery nurse, with the blankets. They were so pleased and so excited to receive the blankets because of the variety of colors, patterns, and love that went into the making of each one. They assured me that they would all go to babies in need and it spurred me, and hopefully you, on to making even more. It was such a pleasure to realize my goal of my first donation to MLKCH. I look forward to many more.
Second, on Friday, October 21st my grandson, Felix, was born in San Diego! He joins his one year old sister, Hazel. My husband Geof and I were there for the big event and the week following. We enjoyed helping our daughter, Breanna, and her spouse, Melissa, as they adjusted to being parents of two babies! Felix weighed in at 7 lbs 15 oz and is such a beautiful baby boy. We are beyond thrilled. Our only regret is that our son, Breanna’s brother, Justin is not here to share the joy. If you have not read “Justin’s Story” on the Blankets of Love South Bay website, I invite you to do so. He would have loved being an uncle to these two marvelous little ones. I just know he worships them from afar.
As I have said before, this cause has given me a chance to meet the most wonderful, giving, kind people. I feel so blessed to have been called to do this in Justin’s memory.
